Frequently Asked Questions
Does a membership include a certain number of classes a month?
Our monthly membership covers all of the classes offered per week. For example, with a child's membership- they are welcome to attend all four days of classes offered to them. For our adult memberships- all adult gi and no-gi classes, drill class, and when offered- our competition classes are included in the monthly membership.
I'm interested in starting my 7-day free trial for myself and/or my child(ren). Do I just show up?
Prior to stepping onto the mats, the only thing you need to do is fill out the online waiver for us. After that, you are welcome to begin your 7-day free trial at your earliest convenience. Specifically for a potentially new child member, we'd suggest you starting on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday opposed to our Saturday classes- simply because our Saturday 9am class invites all of our children ages in one class instead of the separated age mix (which can be quite intimidating for our littles!).
What is the difference between your Gi and No-Gi classes?
The biggest difference is that Gi class requires a kimono and No-Gi classes do not. The kimono provides different grips and techniques that would not necessarily work in a No-Gi class structure. They are both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, they just both offer their own unique set of techniques.
What should I wear for No-Gi class?
Ideally we'd ask that you wear athletic attire like shorts, leggings, spats, or even sweatpants to start (preferably with no pockets or zippers!). Many of our members wear t-shirts or long-sleeve shirts- rash guards are often worn as well. There are plenty of suppliers available to find jiu jitsu specific apparel, but as long as you are comfortable and can move- we're okay with that too!
I don't have a Gi, should I start with No-Gi only?
We have plenty of gis available in our closet for all new members to use during their trial (for adult and children). When the trial ends and you decide you are ready to commit to a membership, you are welcome to purchase a gi directly through us, or we can help point you in the right direction to purchase one on your own.
I'm interested in signing up because I've heard of jiu jitsu and it's benefits but am nervous.
For starters, everyone starts the same way- by walking into the gym. Everyone has their own reasons for why to begin- self-defense, new sport, wanting to lose weight, a friend told them about it, they enjoy watching UFC and MMA, the OT/PT suggested it for their child, typical team sports aren't really a good fit for them. Regardless of your reason(s), we provide you with a 7-day free trial to see if it is a good fit for you, your family, and for us. Starting anything new can be intimidating, but like most things- it's the fear of the unknown that stops most. If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to drop us an email or swing through to see for yourself!
